A forum to promote a global dialogue on India’s food heritage and culinary tourism potential, the country’s agricultural wealth and diversity, and farm-to-table innovations. The concept has been conceived with a vision to empower Indian gastronomy. As Indians, we are all about food….the distinct array of cuisines that stretch right from the northern tip to the southern and west to east! Can you imagine the variety? 

Tasting India is bringing it all together to you. It is being supported by the NITI Aayog, Incredible !ndia (Ministry of Tourism), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and ICRISAT.Following a tremendous first year of success, Tasting India Symposium returns with its second edition this month under a new name – TASTING INDIA: Farm to Table, a forum to promote a global dialogue on India’s food heritage and culinary tourism potential, the country’s agricultural wealth and diversity, and farm-to- table innovations.

When & Who?

From 13th to 17th December, 2017, key persons from the Food Industry, travel and tourism, government, civil society and media – from India and abroad, will gather for dialogues on various subjects related to gastronomy and its future. Co-Founders Sourish Bhattacharyya and Sanjoo Malhotra are organizing and kicking the symposium on the 13th of December 2017 at India International Centre (IIC)​


What? All About Food!!

The concept has been conceived with a vision to empower Indian gastronomy, and to pursue the mission to:

  • Generate widespread, informed awareness of  India ‘s rich and diverse gastronomy to make it a leading global food destination
  • Provide a platform for innovative young chefs and food entrepreneurs to interact, share and grow
  • Showcase India’s Lost Foods
  • Promote  sustainability in the entire food chain – from Farm to Table and beyond
  • Foster understanding of Ayurveda’s contribution to healthy food
  • Set in motion a certification process to guarantee the safety and authenticity of Indian foods in India and across the world.

Smart Food Manifesto will be launched on 15th December 2017 followed by a panel discussion.


The Gastronomy Stalwarts You Will Meet

The three day culinary symposium will see the big wigs of the food industry talking everything that you need to know about the Indian Food Heritage. The likes of Celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Mrs.Banashri Bose Harrison, former Indian ambassador in Sweden and Latvia, Satyajeet Rajan, Dir-Gen Ministry of Tourism, Mrs Madhu Jaffrey, Global first lady of Indian cuisine, amongst many more.

The 15th and 16th of December will see interesting interaction with the young renowned chefs that are revolutionising Indian cuisine. Nishant Choubey, Exec Chef at The Roseate, Abhishek Gupta, Exec Sous Chef at The Leela Ambience Gurgaon, Megha Kohli, Head Chef Lavaash amongst others. The Points of discussion will include, Kitchen Planning, Cooking with forgotten produce, Cuisine without Frontiers, Bar concepts rooted in Indian culture!

When In India, Eat Indian!

The Tasting India Symposium: Eat in India | Make in India, endorsed by Incredible !ndia, the state governments of Sikkim and Maharashtra, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), and  the EAT Forum Stockholm, seeks to introduce opinion-makers in the country and around the world to India‘s opulent gastronomical heritage, its potential to emerge as a culinary tourism showcase for the world, and its vast wealth of wisdom relevant to the current global debate on sustainable lifestyles.

Sanjoo and Sourish have been working since May 2015 towards making the symposium the most important forum to promote a better understanding of India‘s diverse culinary heritage, food destinations and agricultural produce, and the sustainable diet options it can offer to the world.

13th Dec – Launch of the Delhi Round of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India-FSSAI’s initiative to get street food vendors, under the auspices of the National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), to form a national network to donate hot meals to the poor and needy.

14th Dec – Positioning India as the next global culinary superpower

15th Dec – The day will be devoted to deliberations on creating a sustainable food culture

16th Dec – Offsite at Vedatya Institute, Sohna (Haryana): Interaction between Vedatya Students and members of Young Chefs Forum for Sustainable India


About the Founders

Sanjoo Malhotra, a Welcome group Graduate School of Hotel Administration (Fourth Course) graduate who has been living and working in Sweden for 20 years, is an avid promoter of Brand India as well as Indian Culture and Cuisine in his adopted country. In the early 2000s, Sanjoo worked for e2home, an Ericsson/Electrolux joint venture conceptualizing new products and services for the Smart Home and Smart Kitchen.​

Sourish Bhattacharyya is an active promoter of Indian cuisines and destinations. He is a New Delhi-based journalist with a 30-year track record who became a freelance writer and blogger in 2013 after serving as Executive Editor of Mail Today (India Today Group) for seven years.
