If you’re a Chai lover, you would know what it entails. But a Chai addict like me, would be more than enthusiastic ranting about my fuel, my poison….my Chai. Now, when I talk of tea, it entails more than just a beverage. It is what gives my day the boost, opens my sensibilities…..Okay, you get my point! So, how do you think I felt when I heard about a cafe in Pune selling Tandoori Tadka Chai? Intrigued, definitely….and inquisitive.
Chai-La in Pune has discovered this very methodically made Chai with Tandoori Tadka. An innovative initiative by Pramod Bankar and Amol Rajdeo, they explain the process undertaken to brew this very innovative flavoured chai. The ‘Kullad’ is roasted in the Tandoor, the semi cooked tea then poured into the red hot ‘kullad’. The tea is left to bubble up, adding a smoky flavour to the chai. The idea for “tandoori tea” stems from the milk made by their grandmothers in their village.
Worth heading to the city for? As interesting as it sounds, my periphery of tea love ends with my Elaichi masala chai…..Maybe my adventurous side will take me there, for the most creative flavour in tea, yet! Tandoori Tadka Chai…..on second thoughts, it does invoke a tad push….
