Planning to visit Sikkim? You earlier had to get down at Bagdogra Airport and then travel uphill for more than 100 kms to reach the quaint, picturesque town of Gangtok.
But from 23rd September, you need not book your flight tickets to Bagdogra because Sikkim is getting its own airport and the 100th functional airport in India at Pakyong which is situated amidst Himalayas at a magnanimous height of 4500 ft.
Pakyong Airport is a greenfield airport situated approximately 30kms from Gangtok. The airport has been built and engineered keeping in mind the high altitude at which the airport settles itself.
The Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism Department,Government of Sikkim said,” Greenfield airports have their own beauty and merits. You will experience them when flights start operating.
