Nilgiri Mountain Railway

The Nilgiri Mountain Railway worked by the British in 1908 is a World Heritage Site. It's a 46-kilometer wonderful toy train venture that begins from Mettupalayam and takes you through tunnels, bends, cliff tracks and lovely landscapes to reach Ooty in five hours. From 300 feet to 7200 feet, the Ooty toy train is certainly a ride to treasure. Here's a tip – try to sit on the side that looks out in to the valley for the best views on the way up.

Stone House

A must-visit for history buffs, Stone House is the first bungalow of Ooty built by John Sullivan in 1822. Today, it is the Government Arts College of Ooty and displays amazing architecture and some great relics.

Elk Hill Murugan Temple

Ooty like any other city in Tamil Nadu, is home to some brilliant temple architecture. Elk Hill Murugan Temple loacted on Elk Hill is set in the midst of beautiful landscapes. This is a sanctuary committed to Lord Murgan, the respected warrior god. Thaipusam is a popular religious celebration that is praised in January–February to respect Lord Murugan. Kavadi Attam, a dance performed by the fans is the feature of this festival held at the Elk Hill Murugan Temple.

St. Stephen’s Church

St. Stephen's Church, built in 1829, is the most established church in this district. The tinted glass windows are a visual treat. The enormous wooden pillars used to build the congregation were all carried and transported place to place by elephants from a distnace of 120 kilometers from Tipu Sultan's Palace in Mysore.

Doddabetta Peak

Doddabetta Peak at an elevation of 8,606 feet is the most astounding point of South India for it is the highest peak in the South. Found 10 kilometers from Ooty, this pinnacle draws people in huge numbers every year. The view of Nilgiris from here is amazing. Pykara Waterfall

Trek To Shooting Point

Don't let the name mislead you. 'Shooting Point' is the name given to this lovely meadow as it was used as an area for the shooting of many film scenes. Encompassed by slopes, this beautiful place is likewise incredible for picnics and photography. The 'Shooting Point' can be reached by foot. The trek isn't excessively troublesome and won't take too long (not more than 1 km). The quiet environment makes the trek a soulful one, and the view from the top is simply breathtaking!

Regardless of whether you do it to catch fish or only for the experience of being by the water and overlooking everything else for those couple of hours, Ooty is the perfect spot for you.
