Digital age, Digital this and that and all that bull hockey….in the midst of all the technological advancement and progress, somewhere the simplicity and credibility of news shared is….well, superficial. Almost reaching the point of ludicrousness, with a desperate clammer to claw away to the top of the TRP charts, the media platforms have quite literally, lost the plot! How authentic or useful is the information shared these days? The simple joy of reading the newspaper and not being subjected to content that shakes your faith in this medium of broadcasting, seems long gone.
But one man has the gumption and the conviction to stand against the storm of superfluousness and maintain the credibility of what we call “News”. Dinesh Kumar, an independent journalist, who took the onus of setting an example of imparting what truly is the essence of honest journalism, has religiously been selling his handwritten newspaper called, Vidya Darshan…….since 17 YEARS!!
A resident of Gandhi Colony in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, this 53 years old, Law aspirant, who was forced to drop out of school after completing standard 8, owing to poverty, has been taking up odd jobs and sells ice creams and chocolates, striving to make ends meet. But still resolute in his passion for information, with only a bicycle to his name, sans any office or printing machine, he, undauntingly writes the entire newspaper on a blank piece of paper with black ink, extricates photocopies of it and heads out distributing them….Every single day!
Dinesh’s grit and determination to give something to the society, comes through in the content he creates for Vidya Darshan. Unassuming, but this rapturous piece of paper questions a problem and jots down solutions, in the District Officer’s office….in 3 hours flat! My lost faith in journalism, sees a ray of light, a hope that there may be more like Dinesh, who are lost in oblivion.
These are the heroes who need to be celebrated. Can you even fathom the innate blazing passion he comes with, to be so disciplined, despite the lack of any financial support? Thank you, Dinesh Bhaiya, for your trailblazing initiative and your thirst for imparting information….Your firm resolve will lead the way for many others to follow, not just in journalism, but in acquiring strength in hardships! I salute you!
