It all started when I was in my 9th grade and all of us were called for an orientation in the school auditorium. It was then when I first heard about this youth run organization called Indian International Model United Nations.
They are the world’s largest model UN organization and they conduct MUN’s in over 108 cities across India and 15 countries abroad. I was never the kind of kid who was inclined towards formal conferences like these however, what really captivated me throughout the entire presentation at that time was that “WOW! They are a youth run organization comprising of 16- 20 years old and they have achieved so much already. Someday, I will be a part of such an organization and try to contribute by bit in it.
Little did I know that during my end of first year in college, I would get the opportunity to make my dreams a reality and contribute in the organization. Ever since I joined the team, I have seen myself change drastically.
Being a BMS student, our course comprises of subjects that would shape an individual to become a leader in the organization that he/she is working for. At IIMUN, I got the opportunity to implement my learning and handle an entire chapter (which happens to be Noida- the best city in Uttar Pradesh) as a Director General along with a co-partner of mine.
In the conventional education system that we have, one is unable to implement their learning practically until they take the extra effort to seize the opportunity of interning in an organization that allows to do so. At IIMUN, I got a golden chance to not only explore one department but get a taste of all the departments that an organization has to offer. I have not only done cold calling but I have experienced departments like marketing; I have made budgets, handled human resource etc. all at once and this has impacted my all-round development in a positive manner. I have learned the art of management and have developed life skills such as time management, multi-tasking, leadership to name a few.
A few years ago, these words seemed very fancy when my teachers used it in their motivational speeches, but today is when I have experienced and realized the importance of these terminologies in my life.
“India is the world’s most youthful nation. A nation with such youth power cannot dream small. We cannot commit this crime. We should dream big, we should enable the youth to dream big and we should give them the opportunity to realize their dreams” – PM Narendra Modi
To all the young dreamers out there, Indian International Model United Nations is coming to Noida for the second time and this time it is BIGGER and BETTER.
It is time to show the nation the power of the Youth and the strength of their opinions. Wishing you all the best and I hope you make this conference a huge success.
