All those of you who love going to Kasol every now and then, here is some news for you, which is surely not going to go down well. Right from 25th June, 2018 (till we don’t know when) Section 144 has been implied in the valley and why? The High Court has ordered to shut down 48 illegal hotels in Kullu, Manali and nearby hippie hamlets like Kasol and Tosh. Not only that, more than 75 hotels are also putting their shutters down in Manikaran Valley from June 26, 2018.
The total number of hotels in the district is close to 2000, out of which only 638 are registered with tourism and excise departments. And if you think, this is all that you need to worry about then, the HC has also ordered to demolish unauthorized portions of some of the hotels in Manali.
There was an incident of violence which took place in 2017 wherein an angry hotelier had shot down an assistant town planner after the demolition drive in Kasol. Hence to ensure that no such violence takes place in future, Section 144 has been implemented.
The Deputy Commissioner has also asked people to deposit their licensed weapons to nearby police stations within three days as no other person apart from the security personnel or police are allowed to carry a weapon.
So, all you peeps who might be enthusiastic to visit any of these places with your “hip” friends, you need to double check on the hotels. We really hope this gets sorted out soon.
