Hyderabad Courts Put Parents of Minor Drivers Behind Bars!

The Indian traffic sense is…well, world famous! Not something to applaud for, we, by virtue (or not) of being able to get away with flouting rules, feel pride in it! Breaking the regime, Hyderabad police, in a massive crackdown against under aged driving,  went on an arresting spree….arresting parents, who granted leverage and freedom to their under aged kids to get behind the wheels.

In February 2018, three teenagers lost their lives in accidents. A 12-year-old-boy was crushed under a lorry after he lost his balance and fell off the pillion seat of a bike. The bike’s rider, all of 14, was trying to overtake the lorry. Another incident involved three youngsters, who were triple riding, on a bike, and died after a TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) bus hit them. In yet another incident, a 12-year-old boy died after a truck hit his vehicle….and scores of such incidents compelled Hyderabad police to resort to a more preventive measure.

In a first, and i say, effective and ground breaking movement, the Hyderabad courts announced jail to more than 45 set of parents since February,  setting a stringent  example for the rest, while 1079 cases of driving by minors were registered as part of traffic police’s campaign…a staggering number, bringing forth the ignorance and callousness on the part of the parents to fail to fathom the gravity to which it may lead.

With my vote submitted affirmatively for the move, i look forward to such application in other cities as well…Here’s hoping!
