Munnar, which is probably the most sought after destination in Kerala is all set to greet its tourists with a purplish blue flower which blossoms only once in twelve years. This rarest of rare flower is going to bloom in Munnar by the end of this month and would stay until October. Locally referred to as “Neelakurinji“, this flower is going to turn the hills of Munnar into a blanket of purplish blue flowers.
The world has been waiting for a long time to witness this spectacle and hence, travellers from across the globe are travelling to Munnar to ensure that they do not miss out on this opportunity. Since these flowers and plants are endangered species,there are certain guidelines which have been mentioned by the government which you need to keep in mind – You are not allowed to pluck the flowers and plants either for personal or cultivation purpose and the flowering area is a no plastic zone.
Eravikulam National Park, Kovilur and Rajamala are some of the prime locations for you to witness this picturesque scenery. The entry fee for Indian Nationals is Rs 120/-. While you are busy witnessing the flowers, the endangered Nilgiri Tahr is surely going to catch your attention as they are being conserved at the Eravikulam National Park.
