I don’t like dumplings….. said no one ever! From North and South America to Europe to Asia, the dumpling has become synonymous with comfort food across the world. With momo joints at every nook and corner of Gurgaon, the distinction in flavours are hard to decipher. What if I let you in on the most authentic North-Eastern dumplings that have just hit the city? Yangkiez, after stirring the North-East Indian and Pan-Asian tastebuds of Delhiites at Malviya Nagar, is now serving at Baani Square, Gurgaon!
A small, yet happy joint, easily spotted from the main road, greets you with effervescent interiors with bright yellow sofas and chairs… don’t miss the photo of the toil behind the place, Aditi Madan, as the Masterchef India Season 3 finalist! A few minutes into conversation with her, and the fact that she hails from Darjeeling, you know the place comes with a lot of heart and simplicity, her main focus…. to serve Customers directly under her own Brand Blue Pine Foods, giving direct accessibility to her bona fide products, Innovations and a vision to serve “Steamed Food” which is the most healthy way of Cooking.
The menu is a Momo feast with an endless list of variations that had me spoilt for choice…. and what followed was my dumpling craving satiated… but left me asking for more. My tryst began with Chicken Zinger momo, definitely a zing infusing start, crispy on the outside and flavourful Chicken filling inside. This one is a must order!
Thai Chicken momo came freshly steamed filled with a potent lemongrass flavour, while the Paneer Maida momo will literally melt in the mouth, induced with a generous Paneer filling. All of these come with Momo Chutney, Chilli Garlic Chutney and Mayonnaise. But my recommendation is the Momo chutney that adds a speck of spice to the servings.
The Veg Maida and Veg Atta Momos were a surprise package, for a staunch Non-vegetarian lover like me, the atta version, melting like cheese in the mouth! The Aloo Cheese variant was just as appetising!
Talking of cheese, next on my plate was Chicken Cheese…. now if you have the sticky mozzarella on mind, think again…. they make sure they use top quality cheese that is healthy too! And believe you me, the cheesy flavour still explodes deliciously.
Chicken Schezwan was the Pan-Asian delight that will have your spicy taste buds rolling. But the Prawn version was for a seafood aficionado like me what Olives do to cheese… well almost!
Yangkiez is a perfect example of a balanced confluence of authentic and innovative… and the Chicken Pizza momo fits the description exactly.
With that array downed by me, you would think that’s enough… but what Pan-Asian cuisine is complete without a Rice bowl? So the Japanese Curry Rice Bowl it was! Served with crunchy Chicken strips the curry spoke every bit the Japanese that can be infused in taste!
What is interesting here is the attention to detail… every kind is prepared in a different shape and size, fresh and made right when you order! The health bit is given primary focus here with personally procured ingredients…. every variant comes in a wheat version for the days you want to go easy on diet.
