We chanced upon this quaint hidden gem, tucked in one corner of Baani Square, and were lured to walk in, given its awe inspiring aura. Once there, the place almost instantly whisked us away from the madness and bustling crowds of the city. Every element of this cafe traverses you to a calm and tranquil era, far from the rigmarole of the fast paced lives we lead. It nudges you to let your hair down and just revel in the small pleasures of life.
The brain, soul and toil behind the place is the duo Ranjini and Kapil, cousins turned business partners! The White Bricx Cafe is very close to their hearts and is infact, an amalgamation of their respective lives’ journeys and experiences till now. Right from the conception of the idea to the ‘due diligence’ in terms of everything that’s “brewing; from lending their creative touch to daily operations, each of them is immersed into various aspects of the business.
We Loved This Place Inside Out
What’s delightful is that this place is fairly spread out (not claustrophobic like most Baani Square restaurants). It is portioned into indoor and outdoor sections. Something for every mood (and weather!). Also the seamless synergy of both! The positive vibe of the place give you a much needed respite and relaxation from the rigmarole of the fast paced lives we lead.
The indoors are done very tastefully and one can see how subtlety takes priority. Old World charm meets contemporary and makes for a charming ambience to soak into.
The outdoor seating area is a whiff of fresh air (quite literally too!) amidst the concrete jungle that the Millennium City is. The area is large enough to host parties and private enough with nooks for date nights, or bonding over food and conversations. Just perfect for a meal under the stars, or for that matter, the sun! The charming swings add a touch of whimsy!
The food menu at White Cafe is vast, and rather thoughtfully curated, with a healthy mix of the conventional and off beat; living up to the place’s uniqueness. It is an exciting mélange of Continental, Oriental favorites and a tad bit of Indian thrown in. From the desi lovers to the experimental lot, indulgent eaters to fitness buffs, Non vegetarians and vegetarians alike, there’s something for everyone!
So while we savored some of these culinary delights, a tete-a-tete with one of the founders, Ranjini, revealed the meticulous process behind every single product that hustles over to the table. Clearly, one could taste sheer passion seeping through each of the preparations.
Our foodscapade started on a good note with complimentary Nachos and dips (hung curd and salsa). The beverages, Peanut Oreo shake and Meetha Paan (quite an innovation), were guzzled within no time.
This was followed by Shepherds Pie. The first bite and I, for one, was immediately struck by nostalgia. For the dish was smooth and flavorful, and infact, took me down the memory lane to the ‘Mom referring to English cookbook days’. If the senses were traversed to a cafe in Italy as we entered, the taste buds followed suit now. Certainly a ‘must have’. There are lamb/chicken and veg variants in this.
The delectable towering Burger loaded with a Big Fat Chicken Patty, salad and accompaniments was quite a meal in itself and was devoured minutes within it arrived.
The Indian platters are a delight for the desi grub fans that we all are! These are ‘Sharing Platters’, served with dal and rice. We tried the Galouti Kabab Platter. Melt-in-the-mouth soft, flavorful and very filling. Besides these, the Keema Pao and Egg Bhurji Pao being relished by someone else on the table next to ours caught our attention and we promised our ‘already rejoicing’ tastebuds to return for that.
Our decadence ended on a sweet note with the delish Banana Rolls served with ice cream. Crisped to perfection with a gooey filling, we are still dreaming about them! Need we say more!
“The recipes are tried, tested many times over”, shares Ranjini. And that, I think, is what sets the place apart. The food is familiar, is done with professional finesse, and yet has an un’hotel management’ like taste!
All in all, a captivating setting, unparalled scrumptious grub, generous “KING SIZE” portions with a reasonable price tag! Taste buds and senses happy and wallet happier!
