Gurgaon is home to many a fine dine restaurants but sometimes you find a little unexpected gem tucked away in a bylane that just makes you want to skip the charade for a while and return to just the basics. Tau’s, Ansal Plaza, Palam Vihar is one such gem, with simplicity being it’s unique selling point.
I came to know about it through a friend who lives nearby and hops there to have a look(and feel)-alike of a home-cooked meal. Since he never stopped talking about it, I decided to give it a try and I am so happy I did! Friends who are foodies are a real blessing, I must say!
We started off with glasses of haryanvi-lassi and aalu–paranthas and both of those were God-sent! For a while, it felt like home. Only the size of paranthas was like they don’t want you to order more than one. Add lots of butter, home-made curd and pickle to that. It was nothing short of bliss and it felt like home. Well, at least the taste-buds did!
I decided to pay another visit soon as that parantha was the reason I could not try anything else on their menu the last time. This time, I wanted to have some room for dessert and ordered their Tau Special Thali which was again a pleasant surprise. Four tava-rotis laced with butter, yellow dal tadka, gheeya kofta (Thursday Special), salad, pickle, papad, curd and gulab-jamuns were served. While everything else was plain awesome, I can’t stop talking about the chapatis. They were as good as home-made, if not better. I loved this simple meal more than the fancy things we run after and pay a bomb for.
My friend, on the other hand tried to be a little adventurous(inspite of my warnings) and ordered choley bhaturey – which obviously we could not finish. It’s another story that they were delicious too! I know where I am heading to for all my desi food cravings from now on.
The best part is that the meals here really easy on the pocket and giving us what we miss the most – home cooked food, fresh out of the kitchen.
