Courtyard by Marriott has been a brand to reckon with, in the area of hospitality, since it’s inception, a prodigy of the Marriott group. The property, located in the heart of Gurgaon, is a stalwart in the realm of comfort and customer care. Been one of my favourite haunts for their superlative breakfast, last Sunday was my first tryst with their Sunday Brunch at their signature restaurant, Downtown Kitchen & Bar. The experience was as pleasant as it was anticipated to be.
A warm welcome by Amit Kapoor, F& B Manager, Courtyard by Marriott, and The tranquil ambiance, lent by the live singer churning out some beautifully sung classics, was enough to get me delving into the aura of the place. As I settled in, I was, very graciously, offered specially created mocktails, by Ravi Ranjan, F& B Executive, Downtown Kitchen & Bar. Beat the Summer Heat, a ‘Keri’ (unripened mangoes) and mint concocted drink, aptly named…as that was just what i craved for to beat the sweltering heat outside! Sour and refreshing, peppered with spices, it wasn’t anything I have tasted before.
Once that settled me down, i hit the Live Chaat counter….now, the Punjabi in me couldn’t but resist that with papdi, kachoris and samosas…. The chef at the counter concocted the perfect plate of Papdi Chaat for me…a plateful, surely!
The endless array of salads, fresh fruits and cold cuts, made for perfect appetizer dilemma! My picks were the cold cuts and Beetroot and Carrot Salad and Grilled Chicken from the Live Grill Counter, where you could pick your choice of meat or vegetables, grilled to perfection.
Now, don’t judge my appetite, but nothing like fresh pizza ( Pepperoni or Vegetarian) out from the Live Pizza counter! The Pepperoni Pizza , hot, fresh and cheesy enough to melt in the mouth, couldn’t make me stop at just one! To blend in, another refreshing Watermelon-Mint concocted mocktail, The Bartender’s Special, pleasantly surprised me by virtue of the blending flavours.
Moving on to the main course spread, that was split into two versions…The Indian Buffet and the Western/ Asian Buffet, there was more than I bargained for. What do you think I started with?….The Indian spread of course! With the likes of Awadhi Korma- Mutton cooked with it’s royal flavour intact, the lavish Murgh makhani, Paneer do Pyaza and Aloo Dum Awadhi, I was spoilt for choice.
So, to give my taste buds a flavour of the other side of the world and being a Pan Asian cuisine aficionado myself, I hit the Western/ Asian spread. My picks were Pad Thai Noodles, Sliced Fish in Soya Ginger Sauce, Taipei Chicken and Grilled Polenta with chunky tomato sauce.
Now, how can any meal be complete without tantalizing your sweet tooth, right? So did mine take me to one of the most effusive display of desserts! With over 20 varieties of sweet delights, it took indulgence to another level. From Rasberry Tiramisu, Zucchotto and Rasmalai, to Strawberry cheesecake, Baked Yoghurt and Strawberry crush fountain, the dessert section took the cake…quite literally! My appreciation and respect directed towards the Chefs, who may have painstakingly created every one of these….with such intricacy and presentation!
Been privy to some of the most exquisite cuisines and places as a reviewer, Courtyard by Marriott stands a clear winner in the service, culinary and hospitality peripheries. The commendably curated flavours were worth the Sunday spent, basking in this palatable luscious extravaganza! This was just one Sunday…..an encore is inevitable!
