With the surge of drinking culture and thronging of hubs as Cyber Hub, One Horizon and Sector 29, that are popular for housing some of the best and innumerable lounges, bars and restaurants, it is of no doubt that G town is abuzz. As if Gurgaon hadn’t had enough, MCG it seems is out to give competition to these already popular hangout hubs.
Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon’s ambitious plan of converting the Badshahpur drain into an entertainment hub has finally got rolling. MCG has announced their intent to convert the drain, which runs from Badshahpur near Sector 66 all the way across NH48 to Najafgarh in West Delhi, into a recreational area comprising of food joints and play areas several times in the past.
The plan till now has always remained on paper, due to bureaucratic hassles and lack of implementation. But since the draft proposal for the plan has been sent to the urban civic bodies for implementation, authorities feel the area could be operational by early next year.
If the sources from the MCG are to be believed, the detailed plan includes, the first phase of the project, in which the civic body will cover a 6.5km stretch of the drain from Sohna Road to Fazilpur Village, converting it into a paved open area, upon which they will erect food stalls, places for food joints and also build amenities like a jogging track, volleyball and basketball courts, open-air gyms and parking spaces.
An MCG official disclosed that agencies for landscaping have been approached to chalk out a plan. Slated to be different from the existing Cyber Hub and 29, it is to combine entertainment with G town’s love and passion for fitness. Complete with food joint areas around the entertainment centre capable enough to host activities as Raahgiri and stage plays, it will be ripe with a jogging track and provisions for volleyball, badminton and basketball for kids.
The area will be divided into several sections, with each section having its own separate entry and exit gates. Authorities have also reserved spaces for parking 50 cars at each section. “This new zone will benefit people living along Sohna Road or in sectors beyond Golf Course Extension Road,” as conveyed by an official.
Whether the project sees the light of day, awaits to be seen….though the fast paced route towards it looks promising. Here’s to the new kid on the block…in the making!
