Double Tree By Hilton is all set to wow Gurgaon with traditional ingredients and the most exotic of cuisines at the ongoing Japanese Food Festival. A perfect selection of dishes to take your taste buds on a journey to discover flavours from the mysterious Far East.
So the adventurous foodie in me landed at the exclusive preview of this Japanese Food Festival, and boy, I haven’t stopped talking about it.
Chef Karma Tempa From Conrad’s award winning Koji is the man behind it all. He seems to have put his thinking torques together and has crafted a special gourmet buffet menu, that presents Japanese flavours in a new light. He introduces you to some seriously delish Japanese delicacies.
A Trip To Japan Via Food!
So what better than starting with the ‘Poison of the evening’ Sake and letting it play the constant companion to each of the culinary delights to follow! Some matches are made in heaven, others in the kitchen, aren’t they!
The culinary escape began with some assorted appetisers, Pork, Chicken and Prawn Miso, Cucumber Scallop. This array of appetizers with a smooth melt-in-the-mouth-texture disappeared down our gullets as quickly as they arrived. The Potato Manju can well be described as a potato dish in its most delicious avatar, a mashed potato texture stuffed with Umebushi plum pickle and served in a soya based dashi broth.
This was followed by Nimono (Chinese Cabbage and Chicken). The broth, thanks to the miso, comes with an earthy flavour and is very comforting and perfect for this weather!
Ageomon (Fried fish with egg tartar) had healthy team mates such as Fried Spinach, Asparagus and Carrot in tow on the plate. And we crunched our way to satiation!
The Yakimono (Grilled Salmon glazed with teriyaki) and complemented with Shiitake Mushrooms was quite the Showstopper! The flaky and juicy fish, glazed with an incredibly flavourful teriyaki adding a zing to the dish was polished off instantaneously. A Bowl of Hearty food!
The Mushmono was a silken savoury steamed egg brulee with prawns scooped in. Perfect, smooth texture and a subtle flavour!
The Kake Udon was a harmony of flavours, with Dry Fish, Sesame and Shiitake Mushrooms swimming in a clear broth with Udon Noodles. A Wholesome Feast!
And right before we slipped into a food coma, we used the energy that was left to devour a guilt free sweet decadence. Dezato (Assorted Fresh Fruit Platter with Ice Cream) was as minimalist and delicious as it could get.
All in all, a refreshing experience. From the mystic land of the rising sun, the Chef brings to the table (quite literally!) some of the most sought-after dishes. The fact that there’s no sushi on the menu, gives one a chance to experiment more. A trip to Japan via food!
The buffet is priced at Rs. 1750/- and Bento Boxes priced at Rs. 1250/- are available as a part of the Ala Carte menu.
