Ever since Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) came up with the first multi-level parking facility on May 14, 2018 it has become quite convenient for people who commute to and from Gurgaon for work every day. Situated in Sector 29, 300 meters from Huda City Centre, this multi-level parking has two different entries and exits and has the facility to lift vehicles by hydraulic lifts, as well as the spiral. The semi-automatic parking facility can accommodate 1,000 cars and 200 two wheelers. The project is slated to ease the parking space crunch in the city, which is choc-a-bloc at no parking zones.
People see it as a major step taken to reduce illegal parking on the roads. Given the 300 metres of distance from the metro station and the parking, it would be beneficial if the pick and drop facility can be arranged. To address this issue MCG is also starting a shuttle service to make it more convenient for the motorists. Authorities are also looking to tie up with an e-rickshaw provider to offer an alternative for the motorists.
Currently more than 25 malls and commercial centres on MG Road, Golf Course Road, and Sohna Road are offering free parking in their basements in exchange of MCG exempting these properties from paying their property tax since August 2017. To help further, MCG has planned three more multi-level parking lots in Kaman Sarai, Hidayatpur Chhawani and Sikanderpur Ghosi to stop unauthorized parking on the roads that initiates traffic jams and encourages road rage.
The first multi-level parking project is worth Rs 125 crores and it will be interesting to see if three more parking facilities will be able to see the light of day due to dependencies on the budget and infrastructure constraints but if they do, it would be a big boon for the residents of Gurgaon.
And with this we hope the parking woes will heave a sigh of relief!
