Millennium city, the city that never sleeps, Corporate Hub, Party hub..... that is Gurgaon? I think we underestimate the power of Gurgaonites here. Why limit the loudly opinionated city residents? The only limit there is, is space.... apart from that, the Gurgaonwallas are pretty proactive in expressing opinions. No! I am not criticising their adeptness in picking the issue right from the root! It is really endearing....... But......
Being a true blue Delhiite who moved to Gurgaon 17 years ago, I planted myself comfortably in the city that has got the millennials by their horns! I am all about the fast pace, the nightlife, the buzz...... it's rejuvenating! Gurgaon is my twin! But are you considered 'out there' and a part of the 'updated' pack, till you are a walking talking living directory of everything that is happening in the city?
A conversation with an acquaintance who is apparently one (almost Yellow pages), about a (not so new) place in town that serves the best music, leading her to almost blurt out "you are so passe"...... guilty as charged, since I had not heard of this place before. She did after all spurt "If you don't know about such places, Gurgaon can be difficult. You have to keep updated with (at least) what is hip and happening, else how will you be accepted in the pack of true Gurgaonites?" Though she giggled through my flabbergasted expression, food for thought, I thought!
I have been a 'upto my bones' Delhiite most of my existing life..... I can safely say, Delhi is a bit more patient, well, laid back and forgiving even. Commenting in my almost 'Gurgaon' like opinionated self on a Delhi group, would tag me as a 'billi' ready to claw (yes, I have heard those tags for others).
By virtue of my job, I am pushed to keep myself at par with every bit of news about the city, so, I am safe and might be an 'A' grader and a certified Gurgaonite now, (might even give the 99 board exams percenters, some bit of complex)..... but this brief interaction opened my eyes to one thing..... Gurgaon mein rehna hai toh...... sab jaanna padega. Gurgaon is moving fast, and if you got to live here, you got to move with it, else you'll miss the bus!
All things said.... is living in Gurgaon only fenced with being able to talk about a new party place, the latest gig in town, spewing expletives towards a stranger who is just expressing an opinion or the new cafe that serves the best of something? I don't know... I miss the comfortably paced life, the laid back routine...... But I am thankful on the other hand, to the proactive overbearing peeps, who keep the groups and the information flowing!
For now, I am happy living my diplomatic and laid back Delhi self as much as I am enjoying my opinionated 'dekhte hain kya hota hai' Gurgaon self? But it's true, my friends, Gurgaon has taken a new turn.... I love it, It's my city now... but will I ever accept this genre of thought? I'm not sure!
It's time now for my 'Gurgaon' avtaar, scouring through Facebook, every single Gurgaon group and then Gurgaon Times.
