“Ab toh Kashmir hi chalte hain” said an autorikshaw driver when I asked him to help push my car out of the flooded IFFCO-HUDA City Centre stretch. A tad amused, I replied in affirmative. Thank god for that option now!
The ordeal that most Gurgaon residents faced today brings one thing to the forefront- Gurgaon is seriously not ‘aasaan.’ Last year’s underpass flooding should have rung the bells already… but the lesser said the better! This year a BMW floating in the IFFCO chowk underpass for over an hour, is today’s reality.
Delhi rains were a hazard enough, now we deal with Gurgaon rains! Better or worse, difficult to say. When I stepped out today morning, it wasn’t without fingers crossed. The roads were transformed into wave pools…. my love for beaches notwithstanding, driving through one was never on the agenda.
Maybe just one thing positive? At least I wasn’t cussed at when I decided to turn back on the wrong side amidst the jam. On the way back to the safety of shallower floods, traumatised by the insensitive rains, I even found myself thinking “how lucky are these cyclists!” This coming from someone who prefer to be in the safety of her car than be at the behest of an Ola driver…. so much for ‘safety’….
Just for your information- Golf Course Road and IFFCO Chowk are officially flood areas.
Welcome to Gurgaon……
