On the last count, we had about 30 microbreweries in the city. That is a lot! But hey, when the universe conspires to make the Millennium City the ‘City of Microbreweries’, then why bother to say no. And it is thanks to that attitude that we introduce you to the latest brewpub to come to town. Say Hello to Cervesia, the newest micro brewery in town, one that stands apart from the rest of the beer-gade (read brigade)!. Cervesia means ‘Brew’ and the place does justice to the name in every which way! Be it the refreshing beer that they brew or the many associations (be it friendship or business or romantic or familial) that are brewed and celebrated over their refreshing beer, Cervesia doesn’t disappoint.
A CHARMING PLACE
Spread over two floors, the first floor has a lounge seating and the second floor has a fine dining seating and a captivating open terrace too. And there, lies Cervesia’s winning factor. It’s a massive space, mind you, with the lounge floor reserved for the brewery. Yes, yes, with the tanks visible for added effect. If you prefer the indoors, we suggest you start at the bar, with a view of glistening stainless steel microbrewery vats on the side, rows of spirits in the front, and a soothing water body running right through the bar. Very innovative and invigorating! Another thing that I loved about the place is that it’s not dim lit but fairly bright, which is such a breather from the gloomy, dingy bars. It’s almost rooftop season and the one at Cervesia is delightful. The terrace is dotted with green all over the space, adding to the rustic element are stone walls and hanging light fixtures. There’s a covered section too. Come lunchtime, and you will find the fine dining covered place brightly lit with natural light, thanks to the French windows, and evenings, well, you need to be there to enjoy Gurgaon’s ‘beery beery’ salubrious springtime with a beer. Watch the world go by as you look down from their space.
The place promises to serve handcrafted ‘never had before’ beer flavours by using some pretty snazzy Czech and Argentinian malts and hops, and its their off beat variants of beer that are going to set them apart from the others.
Getting down to business, it offers an exhaustive list of brews for you to sit back and sip. If you are a strong beer person, there’s Honey Wheat that’s the strongest but with honey to neutralise the taste somewhat. In for something stout-y? There’s Dark Wheat. Then there’s Vanilla Kelsch, with a subtle sweetness. The American Lager is the All American ale. What’s even more exciting is that they’re going to keep introducing new flavours each month.
In terms of the drinks, we also have to talk about the tipple as well as classic signature cocktails that these guys are doing. They have a Rose Sangria (Rose Wine and fresh strawberries) and a very refreshing Citrus Sangria that you might want to try. In for something lighter? Liquid Rocks is for the adventurous soul with a scintillating mix of Vodka with watermelon, mint, blue curacao and gingerale. Needless to say, the experimental me tried this and devoured it in no time. The bar is also stocked with the Finest Whiskies, Single malts, Rum, Vodka etc. For the ones who like to be sober, the Banta Lemonade and Kala Khatta Lemonade along with the innovative Cold Coffee Smoothies and Milk Shakes are as enticing as the hard liqour.
The food is largely global. A bit of Indian, a bit of Chinese and Continental but mainly fusion. A healthy mix of the conventional and off beat; living up to the place’s uniqueness, there’s something for every taste bud out there. I was looking for something more comfort-like and The Chingari Chicken Dimsum Dumplings (Dumplings stuffed with minced chicken and cooked in clay oven) did total justice to my comfort food craving. Munch Box (Cheese Mix Pasta crumbed and fried) left my tastebuds begging for more! I’ve promised them that I’m going back for some more very soon. The Grilled Fish in Lemon Butter Sauce played the perfect companion as I guzzled down my Amber Nectar. For vegetarians, The Harissa Cottage Cheese Steak (Harissa marinade grilled cottage cheese with sauteed Vegetables and barbeque sauce) is a must try. Melt in the mouth soft and very flavourful. The all-time favourite after one is a couple of drinks down, good old Dal Makhani, was luscious and cooked to perfection. Certainly one of the best ones I’ve had. Pizzas are on the menu too guys, so hurrah for that! The portions are substantial and the service and hospitality immensely gracious. The indulgence and our afternoon ended on a sweet note (literally too!) with the Brownie (please ask chef to share details)
If you are looking for beer that is fresh and food that is yummy, your search has ended. Swing by and knock back plenty of their Ale. Their food too is a high point.
