The millennial city of Gurgaon is teeming with fine dine restaurants, yet some leave a lasting impression. Over the weekend we headed to Artusi Ristorante in Piazza Horizon Gurgaon for a sublime dining experience, one that left us craving for more. A, truly authentic Italian fine dining, you just cannot miss this one if you are an Italian food aficionado.
We met the owner and the man behind the gastronomy, Oscar Balcon who has created a restaurant serving authentic and completely home-made Italian cuisine – prepared in the same way as his mother and their ancestors have always done in their home region of Italy. The menu features delectable choices, featuring an extensive range of risottos, meats, fish seafood , salads, vegetable and some truly delicious desserts, plus a long list of Italian wines and spirits.
Oscar and his chef both hail from a town situated close to Bologna in the Emilia-Romagna region, famous for their gastronomic and wine- making traditions. As Oscar explained , “Italy doesn’t have only one Italian cuisine, but several regional gastronomic identities. The world has started to distinguish between Emilia Romagna’s freshly made egg tortellini and Puglia’s buckwheat spaghetti. And coming to love Italian cuisine and food”.
The restaurant itself is elegant and well appointed with an option of an Al Fresco seating. With the promise of some delicious food to follow, we started our meal with a glass of Prosecco, Italy’s famed dry styled sparkling wine and paired it with an Amuse Bouche (cheese and leeks quiche topped with Prosciutto di Parma and Gorgonzola cream) which was creamy and melt in the mouth delicious.
What followed was a divine salad that combined the flavours of red pears, rocket leaves, raisins and goat cheese seasoned with classic balsamic vinaigrette.
For the Pasta, we went for the “Bis” of Ravioli in Butter and Asparagus and thin noodles with fresh crab and tomatoes. The Emilia Romagna region is famous for their pastas. At ARTUSI Ristorante , they follow that tradition and hand-make an amazing selection of pasta from scratch every day, using highest quality and mostly imported ingredients.
The Palate cleanser of Sorbet of Lemon, Rosemary and Coconut was refreshing. This version makes for a perfect summer après-dîner treat!
For the Mains, we ordered the Sea Bass baked with vegetables and served in its broth, a healthy option, I was told. It was light and flavourful, the use of fresh herbs and ingredients in their signature dishes will always leave you asking for more.
The Pork fillet was served with rosemary potatoes, grilled onion rings and herbed tamotoes , topped with crunchy artichokes. A must have for the meat lovers.
But the piece – de – resistance was the dessert. We ordered the Panna Cotta and red wine marinated Strawberries on Mascarpone Cream. The Panna Cotta with caramel, sweet figs and almonds was mind blowing – the creamy and delicious Italian custard was the best I have had in the city.
Artusi offers a cosy setting, authentic Italian cooking, artistic presentations and out of the world flavours, something which leaves a lasting impression on every food aficionado.
I would definitely go back for more.
