At the recently held UN Global Summit, the heads of the states have unanimously accepted the two biggest challenges currently faced by the humanity – global warming and terrorism. The world’s top terror group, ISIS, has already destroyed the lives of countless people by its unprecedented carnage as well as forcing millions of people to leave their countries.
“Whoever kills a man, it is as though he has killed entire humanity. And whoever saves a man, it is as though he has saved entire humanity.” – The Quran, 5:32
There is no further need to discuss here the global facts about terror, as we all know it very well; almost every news channel and newspaper carry endless stories, discussions, facts, news and views on terrorism on daily basis. The people just want to know how this scum of the world can be defeated to make this planet a better place to live.
All over the world, the Islamic scholars, imams as well as general Muslims from all firqas (sects) of Islam have stood up against terrorism. Several hundred madrassas have together denounced terrorism and issued a unanimous fatwa against it. They, in one voice, speak that true Islam is all about peace, humanity and brotherhood. Islam clearly warns its followers not to kill innocent people irrespective of faith, country, colour or sect.
The followers of Barelvi firqa, Shia and Sufi and those who visit the dargah of Sufi saints wrongly believe that some Islamic firqas such as Wahabi and Salafi promote extremism –the mother of terrorism. It is not true, as no firqas of Islam support or promote terrorism. The terror khalifas use Islam, the Quran and Hadith just to give validity to their cause, but they do not know that no cause can justify this carnage. And neither Islam nor the Quran or Hadith ask a man to shed blood.
How to fight terrorism?
The nations must raise ideological armies of Islamic scholars to fight global terrorism. To fight this menace, we must root out extremism first. Everyone is a natural target of those who live by hate alone, so let’s unite first.
Develop a comprehensive plan that includes compulsory anti-terror curriculum at all schools and madrassas. We have to ensure that each Muslim family inculcates anti-terror lessons in their children.
We have to fight a two-side war; one (we call it soft war) against terrorists’ culture of false grievances and propaganda and misuse of Islamic literature’s, and another war (hard war) against their funding, infiltration and potential attacks, hitting sleeping cells, sympathizers, etc.
We also need to open up de-radicalization centres for potential and those terrorists who want to come back to the society and live like real human beings.
Muslim religious leaders (imams) should come forward to clean the image of Islam and tell people that terrorists’ Islam is a blasphemy. They need to tell people what happens to a religion when it is wrongly interpreted and its books are misused for a cause untrue. They have to provide an antidote to terrorism.
Set up Terror Index Meter in every country (India needs one) as it will keep people and security agencies on alert
Teach people about general precautions whilst visiting crowded places like malls and what to do in case of a terror attack.
The NGOs should take care of the survivors of every riot as these are the boys who can easily be lured by terror godfathers in the name of revenge.
The terrorist groups like ISIS are heavily using internet (social media) to recruit the youth. The religious scholars should be hired to produce counter literature and videos on the net and ethical hackers should come forward to delete terror propaganda before it reaches the masses.
We need to be pro-active. It is a typical Indian tendency to be reactive; we come to our senses once an unfortunate incidence occurs and then we remain vigilant for a few days only to become lackadaisical very soon unless another misfortune. Like Israel, we have to on our toes all the time and take a lot of pro-active steps to stop terrorists hoping or planning for a spectacle.
Hindus and Muslims should know that they are the two eyes of India, and must try endlessly for mutual peace, brotherhood and religious harmony. TV channels and print media should highlight stories of such religious tolerance and harmony – that are happening in the country on almost regular basis. No religions teach hate – Mazhab nahi sikhata aapas me bair rakhna. A few forces (from both religions) will always try to create a rift, but we all know that love and truth can be harrowed but cannot be defeated or silenced. So, spread the warmth of love and develop a feeling of share and care, whilst respecting each religion’s sensibilities. Remember that terror bosses find malcontent youth as easy targets for recruitment, so we need to see that our youth are not sidelined whilst trying for a job or an opportunity.
There is no country on earth like India. It is an embodiment of unconditional love. We have to maintain its great diversity and unity. And must this dutiful onus remain on us. Muslims should accept Hindus as their bade bhai…and Hindus should show affection for Muslims.
