The New Delhi World Book Fair is Back

For all the bookworms, out there, 2019 just couldn’t have a better start than this right? The New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF) which has been one of the biggest events in the publishing industry for over 45 years is back and it packs quite a punch.

The Fair is organized by National Book Trust, India and is a 9-day affair this time, starting from the 5th January 2019 to 13th January 2018 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. In this exclusive feature at What’s Up New Delhi, we take a low-down on what can one expect from the Delhi Book Fair this time around.

What’s in Store?

The theme for this year’s New Delhi World Book Fair is ‘readers with special needs’, so there will be focus on the needs of the differently-abled people.

The fair this year is witnessing participation from nearly 800 publishers from across the country and abroad. Additionally, around 24 countries, including China, Egypt, France, Germany, Belgium, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah,Spain,Canada, and Iran, will be physically present at the fair as they are participating in the Foreign Pavilion.

The fair is also hosting several activities like Author’s corner, Rights table, Children’s pavilion, and Cultural programmes.


How to Reach and What to Pay?

Just hop on to the Blue Line on Metro till Pragati Maidan and the fair is walking distance from there. Tickets are priced at INR 30.

Special mention: kids and school-children can get free entry with their identity cards.

How to book/buy Tickets ?

the ticket booking procedure is very easy for the book fair.

  • Tickets can be booked through the ITPO’s website.
  • Tickets can be bought from Gate 1 & 10 of the Pragati Maidan as well.
  • Further, you can also avail the tickets through the 50 selected metro stations
    -Red Line: Dilshad Garden, Kashmiri Gate, Inderlok, Netaji Subhash Place, Pitampura, Rohini Paschim and Rithala;
    -Yellow line: Jahangirpuri, GTB Nagar, Vishwavidyalaya, Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Huda City Centre;
    -Blue line: Noida City Centre, Noida Sector- 18, Vaishali, Anand Vihar, Pragati Maidan, Mandi House, Rajendra Place;
    -Green line: Brigadier Hoshiyar Singh (Bahadurgarh), Mundka, Paschim Vihar East and Ashok Park main;
    -Violet line: ITO, JLN Stadium, Lajpat Nagar, Nehru Place, Sarita Vihar, Escorts Mujesar;
    -Pink line: Rajouri Garden, South Campus, Sarojini Nagar, Mandawali, West Vinod Nagar, Krishna Nagar Maujpur;
    -Magenta line: Jamia Millia Islamia, Munirka and Dashrathpuri

Tickets will be available from 10 am to 5 pm. Tickets have been priced at Rs 20 each for adults and Rs 10 each for minors.

The fair starts daily at 11 AM till 8 PM

Varied Genres 

As it is a book fair, presence of numerous books from almost all the genres is a must. There are different sections for different genres like Cooking books, Astrology, Romantics, Sci-Fi and a lot more. Apparently, it is the best sight for a lover of books to get into a mountain full of books.

Literature through and through

Not just Indian, but there is British, European, Urdu and all the popular literature categories which are displayed to convey the vast origins of everything. Here, you can actually get into a new world of literature which is not just words but develops a whole new personality.

Stationery Stalls

There are stationery stalls from big brands like Kangaroo, Ballarpur Papers etc. which provide all the stationery items like Notebooks, pens, Diaries and more. There are these really innovative and quirky set of notebooks attracting the writers. Premier ball pens and fountain pens are exhibited.

Educational shows and seminars

Big stars from the literature world are invited in-house for seminars and lectures for all the visitors. These seminars are organized around the theme of the event. Moreover, documentaries and movies related to literature like Shakuntalam are projected for more knowledge and interest.
