Hip & Happening: This Is Where South Campus Students Like To Hangout

Food & Restaurants

May 12, 2019

Everyone is aware of the tussle going on between the north and south campuses of the Delhi University to prove which is the ‘hip’ place to hangout. While Kamla Nagar happens to be the hub of eateries near Delhi University’s North Campus, South Campus too has its fair share of hangout spots that make it just as cool. With admission season on its way, these popular south campus hangouts and haunts will be thronged by fuchchas and seniors alike. So, why should North Campus students have all the fun? Here, we give you a lowdown of popular hotspots around South Campus. Come, take a break!

Satya Niketan

Satya Niketan Market is a popular hangout place for South Campus students, especially from Sri Venkateswara College (Venky’s), Delhi College of Arts and Commerce (DCAC), Jesus and Mary College (JMC) and Maitreyi College. The beauty of this market is that it is full of pocket-friendly eating joints such as QD’s, Amigo’s Hub and Big Yellow Door. What makes these eateries more exciting is the portion served — full value for money!

Hauz Khas Village

From budding artists to affluent socialites and college students, you will always find an eclectic mix of people here. Hauz Khas Village attracts an interesting mix of people. The USP of Hauz Khas Village (HKV) is that there is no charge if you want to just go and enjoy a fun day at the fort and lake area. Students are always looking for economical hang-out zones and HKV is the answer to that.

Connaught Place and Janpath

Located in the heart of Delhi, Connaught Place and Janpath top the list when it comes to having fun on a shoestring budget. And it is not just tasty grub that attracts students here. These markets are lined with stalls selling junk jewellery and accessories (read ethnic jholas and branded sunglasses). Just brush up your bargaining skills and buy yourself a brand new wardrobe, without burning a hole in your pocket. And how can one forget Janpath market, a favourite of students from across the city, for all the trinkets and trendy clothes!

Greater Kailash-1 and Anand Lok

Apart from dresses and trendy tops, students also enjoy tangy chaat, steaming momos and cold coffee in the market. There are two restaurants, Diggin and Mithapur (previously Mithas Cafe) where students love to go for a good meal and a relaxed evening.

Amar Colony Market

From sit-in cafes to street food stalls, the market is a one-stop destination to satiate hunger pangs, and woh bhi sastey mein! Venture a little further, and you can get delicious paranthas at Moolchand’s Sanjay Chur Chur Naan and Moolchand Parantha. There are a few places underneath the Moolchand Metro Station, where students get a hearty meal.
