Mamma Mia! Again, a breathtaking and unique theatrical production, a perfect synergy (must I admit, perfect energy too!) of live singing and dancing along with outstanding acting culminated at the Shri Ram Centre, Delhi yesterday (10th December, 2016) after three days and four successful shows. Set on a colourful Greek island, Mamma Mia! Again is a musical based on the globally appreciated film and play with famous hits from ABBA. Driving the narrative and the message forward, the songs by ABBA remain integral to the fun quoient throughout.
The producers teamed up with Azad Foundation and Sakha Consulting Wings to bring this delightful production to Delhi. The ultimate aim – to raise much needed funds for a special cause. That, of giving the chance of a better life and future to hundreds of under privileged women. Women on Wheels, by Azad Foundation and Sakha Consulting Wings is an award winning social initiative that gives vulnerable women dwelling in slums a chance to escape poverty. It has enabled cohorts of disadvantaged women break the proverbial glass ceiling to become self-sustaining professional and competent women drivers, in charge of their lives! At the same time, providing safe transport options to women in a number of cities. In line with the ethos, Mamma Mia! Again is a story of four strong women who live life on their own terms. Exactly what ‘women on wheels’ are being encouraged and propelled to do too.
THE PERFORMANCE – PERFECT SYNERGY, PERFECT ENERGY!
F’ABBA’lous in every which way! One, which keeps you engrossed and charged till the very end. A story of four women who live life on their own terms, with a lot of humor thrown in good measure, besides the mesmerizing dance-drama-singing, the underlying message strikes a chord, as much as the scintillating musical chords captivate you!
Directed by eminent theatre actor and director Ritu R Chandra, the protagonist and other actors are all notable theatre personalities. Structured and interwoven in a very balanced and riveting manner, the performance is just the right mix of fantastic performances (acting, dance and music), whilst leaving an impactful message. All of ABBA’S foot tapping numbers are of course the icing on the cake! Let me just say, the ones who came because of love for ABBA’s music fell in love with the story line and the essence (women empowerment) and those who came for the cause, left the venue absolutely captivated with the music and the performance. By the end, of course, there’s a happy ending and the obligatory sing-along finale that quickly has the audience raising their voices and tapping their feet – a spontaneous and joyous celebration of some of the greatest pop songs ever written. All in all, a fantastically perfect and perfectly fantastic show which left everyone spell bound! Kudos to the team!
