Dreading Travel During Festivals? Indian Railways Has Got Your Back!

To cater to the increased passenger traffic during the festive season – Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath – Indian Railways has announced special trains. As people live outside their home state flock home, passenger volumes during the festival season go up substantially. Many people find it difficult to manage a ticket or buy tickets at a higher price due to huge rush. During this season, air ticket prices also go sky high. These special trains will give some succour to these passengers.

All the special trains will run as a special train on special charges and no concessional booking will be allowed in these trains. Booking for all the special trains will be opened on September 16, 2019, in up directions through the IRCTC e-ticketing website and the Indian Railways reservations offices and other related ticket booking centres. The special trains will have air-conditioned, sleeper and general second class accommodations.

All the three special trains are likely to start their operations before October 10, 2019, and will remain functional up till November 25, 2019

In a statement issued by Northern Railway on 16 September, it has been decided to increase the capacity of trains in view of high crowds during Durga Puja and Deepavali. Additional coaches will be installed in trains. Additional AC coaches will be provided in some trains and additional sleeper coaches in some. This will reduce the waiting list and confirm the seat of 72 passengers per coach.

New Delhi-Amritsar Swarn Shatabdi, New Delhi-Daurai Shatabdi Express, New Delhi Kathgodam Shatabdi Express, New Delhi Chandigarh Shatabdi Express, one AC chair car will be added. At the same time, additional coaches of AC third class will be installed in New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani, New Delhi Jammu Rajdhani. Apart from this, sleeper coaches will be installed in many trains.

The passengers will be able to check the arrival timings of the special trains on the Railway website by providing PNR number. There will be no concessional booking for these trains. The passengers will be able to book air-conditioned, sleeper or general second class ticket.
