Delhi University has always been a part of the buzz because of various reasons. Admission to a DU college in addition to being the matter of great pride, leads to a lot of exposure. But the popularity of DU does not only stem from the high cut-off or the various colleges of north campus or south campus, there also dwells some of the most intriguing societies in the various colleges of Delhi University. There are a number of societies in every college for various disciplines like music, dance, literature, debate etc. These societies are responsible for the many events that happen around the University. Though a number is huge, we bring you 5 of the most famous societies in the University-
ABHIVIYAKTI – THE DRAMATICS SOCIETY OF INDRAPRASTHA COLLEGE
One of the first few dramatic societies of DU, Abhiviyakti has gathered a significant audience with their mind-boggling talent. They are famous for the it’s representation of social issue through the infusion of satire and comedy in their performance. They won first positions in most fests for it’s street play production called “Manmarziyaan”. Chauraha is the street play festival organized by Abhivyakti in unison with Shruti, the annual fest of IP College.
NAZAAKAT- THE FOLK DANCE SOCIETY OF GARGI COLLEGE
Nazaakat exemplifies the dancing traditions of the Indian folk culture. The choreographies and expressions are intricate and the costume, mesmerising. One of their most acknowledged performances includes the one portraying the tradition of worshipping Lord Krishna. They won hearts along with the competitions during the fest season of 2015.
PIXEL – THE PHOTOGRAPHY SOCIETY OF HANSRAJ COLLEGE
This society is among the most popular ones across the University. They hosted a photography exhibition at Indian Habitat Centre and were the first ones to do so, across the societies of DU. They also host young minds, a three-day photography exhibition, in February. Plickture is the annual photography festival organised by Pixel, inviting budding photographers across DU to showcase their talents in the various competitions organised.
GALORE – THE FASHION SOCIETY OF Maitreyi College
This very glamorous society is a classic example of beauty with brains. One of Galore’s production focused on Project Tiger, as the Society wished to spread awareness about preserving the beautiful animal. The clothes of Galore are designed and stitched within the college premises.
THE HANS RAJ PROJEKT
The Hans Raj Projekt is a band which is a part of Swaranjali, the music society of Hans Raj College. It was ranked the best band at the fest season during 2015 in DU. This band is an awesome amalgamation of vigorous energy and implacable dedication. The band is not just limited to the University, and continues to bang the real world. They performed at Ambience Mall, Gurgaon and were also featured at 94.3 Radio One.
