Chandigarh is more than just a Union Territory, it has a history, a future that is connected with the people already residing or intending to settle there.The Openhand landmark is the official symbol of Chandigarh which endures as the perception of openness of spirits, friendship, and solidarity.
It is a little-known fact that the city of Chandigarh was Prime Minister Nehru’s dream city. The City Beautiful stands on the top in the list of well-known cities around the world and interestingly there are many interesting facts about Chandigarh.

French Architect

Chandigarh, as observed now was planned by the great architect of that period Le Corbusier. It is one of the various city planning projects of Le Corbusier to have really been achieved. The city is quite perfectly located on the foothills of the Shivaliks. Today, it is counted among the best experiments in terms of modern architecture and urban planning in modern-day India. Special care was taken to ensure that the roads were designed in a way that during most of the daytime, they would be under a constant shadow.

The Tricity

Did you know that a Tricity or “Greater Chandigarh” exists? It comprises the three cities of Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Mohali. But much later, for better administration and management both Punjab and Haryana created Mohali and Panchkula respectively. These cities are essentially the augmentations of the city of Chandigarh in example and in basic outline.

Unlucky 13

The whole city is divided into sectors and each one is well connected with market, shops, schools and other needed amenities via a network of small roads. But unfavorable 13 thought which makes sign 13 an inauspicious number and therefore there is no Sector 13 in the Chandigarh as well as in Panchkula. Weird right? But a superstitious belief.

What's In The Name?

The city got its name Chandigarh from the Chandi Devi Mandir. Chandi means “Warrior version of Goddess Parvati” and Garh means “Fort.” The temple lies in Panchkula i.e 15 km away from the city Chandigarh. During Navratris, thousands of people gather here to do pooja and is considered as a must visit place for everyone who seeks to let their wishes come true.

Design Analogous To Human Body

The city is planned according to the structure of human body where Sector1, comprising of Capitol Complex is the Head. Sector 17, City Centre is the Heart. Leisure Valley which consists of various parks is the Lungs.
The cultural and educational institutions are the Intellects. The network of the roads based on seven V's are the Circulatory System.

Haunted And Mysterious Places

The beautiful city too has many haunted places and abandoned homes. Most haunted stories lie in Sector 16, where there is a famous Haunted House and Haunted Bridge. The house has been lying vacant from several years now and its condition is enough to give you shivers. It is believed that an aspiring doctor girl, 20 years old was hit by a truck and her soul still resides in the area. Go visit this place and surprise your friend.

Clean City

A study conducted by national government reported that Chandigarh is one of the cleanest cities of the country. As tree plantation was important part of the city's design. This is the purpose why there are around 26 flowering varieties and 22 trees varieties planted at different localities across the town.
