In the follow-up to Man of Steel, Henry Cavill returns as Clark Kent/Superman after the events of the Kryptonian attack on Metropolis that marked the beginning of his journey as Superman. Ben Affleck’s “tired, weary and seasoned” Bruce Wayne suits up as Batman to hold Superman accountable, along the way forming the epic partnership that will one day be the foundation of the Justice League…but also to take down a far greater threat to mankind at that moment.
Alright, so it’s almost time (a couple of weeks away) for us comic-book nerds to cry tears of joy! For what has been the two most polarizing figures in pop-culture history, that too for decades – we will finally get to see the live action version of Batman and Superman share the same screen!!!
Holy sh#* !!!!!!
But the fairy tale like script & dream come true moment doesn’t end there, much to our delight. These two characters will be joined by Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) at first, hence completing the “Holy Trinity” followed by rest of the Justice League members – Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg. Also if rumours are to be believed, Green Lantern/Hal Jordan may appear in the final cut of the film & by the end of the movie we’ll get our first look at a complete Justice League setup!
We last saw Bruce Wayne at a Persian Cafe…times have changed up to now, when we meet the caped crusader next, this particular iteration will be a more darker and war-weary one. Although few elements of the character remain unchanged, even from the Adam West days, evolution is inevitable.
2. A MORE AUTHORITARIAN PHILOSOPHY
The one rule always touted by Nolan’s Batman was his way of dishing out punishment didn’t involve any killing. If there is one thing the trailer for Dawn of Justice has suggested, it’s the fact that Snyder’s Batman is hell bent on pushing the envelope as he lives out his authoritarian philosophy and if Superman could snap Zod’s neck in the blink of an eye, well this actually is the proverbial clash of the titans!
3. NO ORIGIN STORY
In the mid 2000’s superhero origin stories were all the rage, but now that it’s all done and dusted & we’ve seen these heroes grow to become larger than life characters, Zack Snyder has built a world where Batman has an assumed history.
Gone are the days of Hans Zimmer providing the sombre, dark and mellow score behind a Batman flick. Although he has joined hands with Snyder to produce the theme for Superman, Junkie XL a Dutch composer has been roped in to provide a more brutal and fierce score for Batman.
If the trailers (especially the final one) are any indication, well the least which can be said is the fact that this film is going to be BRUTAL. Snyder seldom shies away from putting the main focus on the action scenes, and with the way things are looking at the moment Dawn of Justice will surely treat us to a lot of hellfire and brimstone!
6. THE BAD GUYS
We have been witnesses to a host of classic villains in the past. From Heath Ledger’s Joker, Tom Hardy’s Bane and Michael Shannon’s General Zod in Man of Steel. Things just keep getting better in Batman v Superman – Jesse Eisenberg’s crazy, diabolical and hip portrayal of Lex Luthor is something worth the wait. Oh! And there’s Doomsday too, who’ll probably be smashing anything that comes in his way.
Ultimately, Snyder is not only preparing us for the arrival of the Justice League, but is also serving a side dish of villains that will keep our heroes very busy for the years to come.
7. WONDER WOMAN
We have seen few snippets of her in the trailers, but the exact magnitude of her role in the film is yet to be understood. But if we have to go with the talk around the film, then it’s a certainty that Diana Prince will have a pivotal role in bringing the two titans together in their battle against Doomsday.
Dawn of Justice will be one of the longest superhero flicks in recent history, with the official runtime being 2 hours 32 minutes.
